The GST regime was introduced in the year 2017. It aimed to harmonize the tax regime across the country. If you are an individual or a company that supplies goods or/and services, it is mandatory to register under the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN). It is mandatory for businesses exceeding a turnover of Rs 20 Lakh in a financial year. Registration is done online at the GST Portal. Once the registration is done, a unique GSTIN (Goods and Service Tax Identification Number) is received. This provides you with a legal identity as a goods and service provider.

Documents Required for GST Registration
- PAN of the Applicant
- Aadhaar card
- Proof of business registration or Incorporation certificate
- Identity and Address proof of Promoters/Director with Photographs
- Address proof of the place of business
- Bank Account statement/Cancelled cheque.
- Digital Signature
- Letter of Authorization/Board Resolution for Authorized Signatory
Process of GST Registration
- Click on the ‘New Registration’ option on the GST Portal and fill in the required details,
- The Temporary Reference Number (TRN) will be generated.
- Click on ‘Register’ in the ‘Taxpayers’ menu and enter the TRN to proceed.
- Fill in the requisite details and submit the required documents.
- The application is then verified and once the process is completed, you receive an Application Reference Number (ARN) on your registered mobile number and email ID.
- The ARN can be used to check the status of your application on the GST Portal.
